Rising Film Evaporator
Application
The rising film evaporator operates as follows: feed liquid is introduced into the heating tubes via a siphon pump. As it heats and partially vaporizes, the mixture flows into a separator where vapor and liquid are divided. The concentrated liquid then returns to the evaporator through a circulation line, forming a closed-loop cycle. For high-capacity evaporation, multiple effects can be arranged in series to conserve steam and lower energy consumption.
Working Principle
The preheated feed liquid enters the heating tubes from the bottom of the evaporator while heating steam condenses on the outer surface of the tubes.
As the liquid is heated and begins to vaporize, the secondary steam rapidly rises inside the tubes, entraining the remaining liquid upward along the inner wall in a thin film.
Evaporation continues during this ascent, and the vapor-liquid mixture enters a separator at high velocity for phase separation.
The concentrated liquid (product) is discharged from the bottom of the separator, while the vapor is removed from the top.
Scope of Application
◆ The ascending film evaporator is suitable for processing solutions with high evaporation loads, heat sensitivity, low viscosity, and a tendency to foam. It is not recommended for highly viscous fluids, solutions prone to crystallization, or those that cause significant scaling.
